LOVE that wild tree!!!! Suits so well with the pastel background!

Thanks Voy Kay and it truly is quite fun and relaxing to let it flow.

I am finding many paintings I would like to paint that start with black gesso. Should I assume I need to also use liquid clear it’s not always mentioned. I’ve not tried anything but wet on wet technique.?

Dear Happy Rap, the answer to that is … YES! You canot add liquid white on black or grey gesso (or any other acrylic color but white). The white would be on top of the gesso, completely ruining its effect.
Mostly Bob mentions this but as you said, not Always indeed.
Good luck, you will find a new (coloring) world going open for you!

Thanks Voy Kay I’ve only done one on black gesso. I used liquid clear but when I tried to blend it was more a smear. I can’t imagine not but when it’s not mentioned or listed I was not sure

Ah, I see, well you can only use VERY FEW of that liquid clear, only a very very thin layer.
To get such, you can apply the liquid clear first on the entire canvas and then take a paper towel to wipe it off. Do that gently and if necessary, do it a second time. You can easily spot on the towel after whiping how much clear you took off. If that is a lot, go for a second (perhaps harder) whipe. If it is few, you have the right amount on your canvas!

Good luck with that.

ONE SPECIAL REMARK: liquid clear is very sensitive with paint thinner so if you paint on liquid clear, your brushes need to be 100% clean and 200% dry!!
